One
of the things I hate about Microsoft is how they arbitrarily
decide to change things, supposedly "for my own protection".
If you run Windows XP and install Service Pack 2, you will find
that almost every page you display in Internet Explorer throws
up this error message, which basically means "Microsoft
thinks you are too stupid to view this web page without us watching
over your shoulder to make sure you don't give all your credit
card details to a Russian hacker".
This message appears for any page that has any kind of "active
content", which is geek speak for Java script, Visual Basic
script, basically anything that is not pure HTML. This includes
the ubiquitous Google ads, which many web sites display in order
to generate a few cents of income.
To get rid of this message, in the IE menu bar, click on Tools,
Internet Options, and then the Advanced tab. Scroll down
the long list until you get to the section called Security.
Find the entry "Allow active content to run in files on
My Computer" and check that option, as shown in the screen
capture. Then click the OK button, close Internet Explorer, and
restart IE.
From now on, you will be able to view web pages without Microsoft
nagging you.
