Over the years, I have noticed that some companies are particularly
poor about uninstalling their own software when you upgrade to
a new version. Microsoft is a notorious offender for leaving
piles of junk in the Registry. But Ahead Nero surely comes a
very close second. I don't think I have ever had a Nero upgrade
go smoothly.
This error occurs if you have an existing version of Nero,
and then you buy a new DVD drive and install the newer Nero software:
This is caused by Nero's own uninstall routine not working
correctly. Nero is aware of the problem, and has provided some
utility programs to clean the registry and get rid of the old
Nero junk.
So first uninstall Nero again, then go here and run their
utilities:

Then put the CD in your drive and re-install the new version.
