If your PST file (Microsoft Outlook's database of folders
and e-mail messages) is damaged, Outlook won't work. Microsoft
has provided a fix-up utility, InBox Repair Tool, called SCANPST.EXE,
which was installed on your system when you installed Outlook.
Go to:
C:\Program Files\Common Files\System\MSMAPI\1033\
If your system doesn't use US English, the 1033 will be replaced
with another language code. If you can't figure out what to do,
then do a search for SCANPST.EXE.
Look for SCANPST.EXE in the folder and double-click it. The
program will scan the database and hopefully fix any structural
damage. However if the damage is too severe, it isn't going to
help. In that case, you have to delete the PST file (or rename
it to PST.old, so Outlook won't use it), and either copy from
your backup, or create a new PST file by running Outlook.
