This error happens when you click on a link in an e-mail.
The web page opens in your browser, but Outlook throws up this
error as well.
After Uninstalling
a FireFox Extension
This started happening on my system after I uninstalled a
Firefox extension. It seems the uninstall process reverted some
setting in the Windows Registry incorrectly.
The fix for this is to run My Computer or Windows Explorer,
and click on Tools, then Folder Options. Now click
on the File Types tab. A long list of file associations
will be shown. You need to find the one for "URL".
On my system, which uses Firefox and Internet Explorer to browse
the Internet, there is a line called FireFox URL. If you
don't use FireFox, scroll down the list until you find a line
with URL in it. Click that line, then the Advanced
button, then open, then the Edit button.
Now uncheck Use DDE, and click OK. Then keep
close the dialog box. You should now be looking at the list of
file types again.
Keep scrolling down the list until you find URL:HyperText
Transfer Protocol. Do the same process to remove the DDE
setting from the open command.
The next line in the list should be URL:HyperText Transfer
Protocol with Privacy. Do the same process to remove the
DDE setting from the open command.
After Uninstalling
FireFox (or Another Browser)
If ou recently uninstalled an alternate browser, such as FireFox
or IE7, run Internet Explorer, click on Tools in the menu.
Choose Internet Options and click on the Programs
tab. Under Default Web Browser click the button marked
Make Default.
