PC Secure purports to be a spyware removal program,
but this program is itself malware ... software that does bad
things to your computer. It hides itself (you won't find it in
the Control Panel Add/Remove Programs list) and changes its name
to WinFix to make it that much harder to locate. It does
provide an exit in the menu that pops up when you double click
its icon, but 5 minutes later it's back.
It displays messages on your screen that look like Windows
security alerts telling you that you've got 35 or so infected
files that are doing bad things, and tells you to click the OK
button to download PC Secure's anti-spyware program (which costs
money). The message keeps re-occurring and is most annoying.
This is something that Windows Defender is supposed
to find, but running Windows Defender says there is an error,
it can't download any updates. PC Secure alters Windows Defender!
The way to remove PC Secure is as follows:
1. Run Windows Defender. If you don't have it, download it
free from Microsoft.
2. When Windows Defender says it can't download any updates,
click on the link and download the update manually.
3. Run the update, and do a scan of your computer.
4. Windows Defender will tell you that it found PC Secure
and, by default, mark it for removal. It may also find other
malware.
5. Let Windows Defender remove the malware.
6. Reboot.
