Return to Introduction

There is no doubt that Microsoft has done enormous things for the computer industry, and that Windows has become a universal standard. However, Microsoft frequently changes things without notice, which affects millions of people and thousands of programs. Furthermore, they rarely fix bugs. Oh, they document some of them. They have a "Knowledge Base" containing thousands of known problems, but these are rarely fixed. The monthly service patches are fixes to critical holes that hackers exploit to take over your system. But bugs in Windows XP and the previous operating systems are rarely, if ever, fixed.

This section is a list of some of the things I have personally encountered, and sometimes spent days on, seeking a fix or workaround.

Microsoft is actually aware of the pain they cause users. Click here and watch a video of how they punish programmers who mess up. You have to scroll half way down the page to get to the video. (It's a joke, but I personally wish it were real.)
